Organized in October, 1989 (shortly after the big earthquake), the Gold Standard Chorus has had many local performances and participated in District competitions. We’ve sung along the route at a few Wharf-to-Wharf races, Scotts Valley’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremonies, various residential facilities, and at three annual concerts. Most importantly, we have a good time singing together!

The Barbershop Harmony Society is an international singing society for male and female voices dedicated to preserving the great barbershop harmony singing style. We’re a chapter within the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America, Inc.) and attend annual conventions with other chapters. Our hometown of Santa Cruz, California has long been known for doing things a bit differently, and we’re no exception: our “mixed harmony” is a rarity in the barbershop world although since 2019 the society has been opened to both male and female singers.

If you like harmony, we’d like to meet you. You’ll be welcome at any of our chapter meetings(rehearsals), and if you call or email us, we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Our Mission Statement

Our primary mission is to bring people together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through singing. We are a community chorus that provides musical entertainment and education to community members, with no prior formal musical training required. Our secondary goals are to encourage the teaching of harmony singing and to provide financial support for choral music in Santa Cruz County’s secondary schools.
