Surprise your loved one with a Singing Valentine delivered by a Barbershop Quartet from The Gold Standard Chorus! Your sweetheart will receive two great old-time love songs in barbershop harmony, a romantic rose, and a customized Valentine card from you. And for that special touch, you can sing to your sweetheart with our quartet backup – call for details! We will deliver to residences, businesses, hospitals, restaurants, etc. within a 20-mile radius of Santa Cruz on both Sunday, Feb. 12th and Tuesday, Feb. 14th. Your Valengram will be scheduled upon receipt of payment.

Who: Your Sweetheart (or Mom, Dad, parents, siblings – anyone you love!) and a barbershop quartet from The Gold Standard Chorus
What: Personal delivery of a Valengram (Valentine Singing Telegram)
When: Sunday, Feb. 12 noon to 7:00pm, and Tuesday, Feb. 14 9:00 am to 8:00 pm (Other delivery times may be available – just ask us!)
Where: Your Choice – home, office, restaurant, hospital, it’s totally up to you

Our biggest school fundraiser yet is almost here!! To support vocal music in our county’s schools, we produce this benefit concert each year. With ten schools participating and award-winning young quartet, First Strike, as special guests, 2011 promises to be the best year ever!

Gold Standard Chorus to open Northwest Division Chorus Contest

San Jose BHS chapter, Voices in Harmony, will host the convention

Santa Cruz’s own Gold Standard Chorus has been invited to open the Saturday, March 19th morning event, the Northwest Division Chorus Contest, of the Far Western District Chorus Spring Barbershop Convention and Contest as the official “Mic Tester” chorus. We’re honored to be performing at this event, and invite anyone in the Bay Area who loves barbershop to join us!

The contest is in the Elizabeth A. Hangs Theater at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA.  Doors open at 10am, and the competition begins at 10:45. Tickets for this event are $25 at the door, but if you love barbershop, you’ll want to attend all the singing events on both Friday, March 18th and Saturday, March 19th.  All-event tickets can be purchased at Brown Paper Tickets up until the event, and either printed on your computer, sent to your mobile phone, or picked up at the door. Join us for two days of barbershop harmony singing at its finest!

  • 9:30 am – Registration opens
  • 11:00 am – Auditorium opens
  • 11:30 am – Chorus contest starts
  • 1:40 pm – Chorus evaluations
  • 2:00 pm – Classes start
  • 5:00 pm – Auditorium opens
  • 5:30 pm – Quartet contest starts
  • 8:00 pm – Show of champions
  • 9:00 pm – Quartet evaluations – Best Western Hotel
  • 9:00 pm – Afterglow – Chevy’s (open mic, quartets, incl mixed)
  • 12:30 pm – bar closes
Reasons for Not Missing This Convention
  1. The Competition – Lots of early sign-ups from both choruses and quartets. This will be a large convention and may be the biggest and best yet.
  2. The Classes – Great instruction that rookies, the seasoned, and veterans will want to attend.
  3. A Quality Afterglow – Relaxed and fun, with prizes for the top non-competing quartets.
