About the Chorus
Organized in October, 1989 (shortly after the big earthquake), the Gold Standard Chorus has had many local performances and participated in District competitions. We’ve sung along the route at a few Wharf-to-Wharf races, Scotts Valley’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremonies, various residential facilities, and at two annual concerts. We also do annual Valengrams (singing Valentines) deliveries, and, most importantly, have a good time singing.
The Barbershop Harmony Society is an international men’s singing society, a “male voices only” organization. We’re a chapter within the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America, Inc.) and attend annual conventions with other chapters. Our hometown of Santa Cruz, California has long been known for doing things a bit differently, and we’re no exception: our “mixed harmony” is a rarity in the barbershop world.
